Tour Inspiration - Gardens

Scotland is blessed with some of the most stunning, versatile and unique gardens in the United Kingdom. Drumscot can arrange a spectacular private tour encompassing many feature walled gardens, cut flower gardens, period gardens and woodland gardens. Many of these are located in the grounds of fine Castles or Scottish Baronial Homes. From the vast Victorian Glasshouses of Glasgow Botanic Gardens to the 400 private gardens open to the public under the Scotland’s Gardens Scheme, there’s something for everyone.

Customers of Drumscot consistently rate the 50 acre microclimate of Inverewe Gardens as one of their favourites. It is a world famous Highland oasis of rare exotic plants gathered from the remotest corners of the globe. The plant collectors amongst you might also be interested to know that the Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh together with Scotland’s three other Royal Botanic Gardens boast one of the largest collections of plant species in the world.

As far as formal gardens go, the 17th Century Italian Style Garden at Drummond Castle would be hard to beat. This finely clipped, immaculate garden with its terraces, fountains and urns is said to be one of the finest in Europe. Likewise, the symmetry of the four great parterres at Pitmedden Garden in Aberdeenshire are unsurpassed as fine examples of a formal French gardening style.

If a Drumscot Private Tour takes you on the Aberdeenshire Castle Trail then the Jacobean painted ceilings and oak carved panels of Crathes Castle are superb but for the keen gardener its topiary and walled gardens might steal the show.

For a fusion of nature and art then a stroll through the glades of Jupiter Artland or Little Sparta in the Pentland Hills is food for the imagination and soul. A walk amongst the trees and sculptures of Calgary Art in Nature on the Isle of Mull is equally evocative for both the art lover and those with a yearning to explore the wildly enchanting woodland gardens.
